Can't Maximize/Minimize Viewports with Editable Mesh objects selected

Whenever I've selected an Editable Mesh object and have "Keyboard Shortcuts Override Toggle" turned on, I can't maximize or minimize the viewports with ALT+W. How can I fix this?

Hi @office,

one thing you can do is change the shortcut of Maximize View to e.g. spacebar.

Under customize interface menu -> keyboard change -> Maximize Viewport.

Best, Nadja

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I use the lock selection function with spacebar extensively. Any other workaround?

Hi @office,

you can assign any shortcut to the Maximize Viewport that is not in use.

Spacebar was just an example, as I am using it that way 😉

So there's no other way to fix this except than using other key combination than ALT+W? I don't believe this is not possible, is it?

By the way, I just found out that when I press ALT+W while I'm in Vertex sub-object level of the Editable Mesh object, the Weld button activates. So maybe this is why I can't use it with Editable Mesh objects, because Weld is assigned to ALT+W at the same time? Is that even possible? How can I remove the ALT+W hotkey from the Weld command so it doesn't interfere with the other one? When I go to the "Editable Mesh" category in the shortcuts editor, I don't see any key combination for the Weld command:

Hi @office,

sorry that I did not explain the reasons for my suggested solution.

You are completely right with your assumption.

There are different shortcut keys the "Main User Interface" and shorcut keys for groups such as Edit/Editable Mesh, Track View, Nurbs, etc.

The "Keyboard Shortcut Override Toggle" lets you toggle between those. That is the reason why it works when you switch it off.

When Override is on, both Main UI and functional area shortcuts are recognized; however, if there is a conflict between a shortcut assigned to a feature and one assigned to the Main UI, when Override is on, the feature's shortcut takes precedence.

That is the reason why I suggested to change the shortcut of Maximizing the Viewport. But of course you can do it the other way as well. So delete or change the key from the Weld command.

Best, Nadja

Thanks for the explanation, Nadja. Unfortunately I can't find the conflicting Weld command to unbind the ALT+W hotkey from it. Can you help me find it?

Hi @office,

sure 😉

You can find it here:

Key_welt_target_mode.jpg

customise->customise user interface->keyboard->Group:edit/editable mesh->weld target mode.
