3DS Max Icons Missing, Lots of UI Elements White

here is what my interface currently looks like when i Open Max, I have been trying to fix this for 4 hours now with no results and have done the following;

Uninstalled and Reinstalled Max

Repaired Max

Updated Drivers

Loaded the default UI back in

Turned computer off and on again

Tried to deal with it

I honestly don't know where to go from here and it is heavily detrimental to my work right now as well as being extremely frustrating so any help is greatly appreciated as I cannot work properly until this is fixed

Also now when i go to select polys it will only select them if my select box goes over the entire poly rather than just touching it,

Thanks

Autodesk has a list of supported hardware for all their applications including 3dsmax. You can google it. Are your video drivers up to date? Have you googled to see if other people have similar problems with the card you are using? I know I am having interface problems with max 2015 but my video card is pretty old so that is my problem not the software.

This doesnt help you but what might is reverting from nitrous to direct 3d via customize/preferences/viewports choose driver and the legacy direct 3d. Its not as pretty but it will get you up and running while you trouble shoot your video setup in ref to max.

Cheers

Yeah, is your vid card supported? You actually need someone with the same card and problem who has found a solution. Sorry I am not that person.

I've run into some weird UI problems, and it is usually traced back to some corrupt files in your user folder.  Here's something worth trying...

Go to C:/Users/USERNAME/AppData/Local/Autodesk/3dsMaxDesign/(version)/

Here you should find a folder called ENU.  Rename it, like ENU-OLD.  Then start Max and see if that fixes anything.  If it does, then you know something in there is broken.  Many of the files in the OLD folder can be copied back, but keep track of what you move so you know which one is the culprit.

Hello please help,

I have the same problem. I have Windows 7 Premium. It worked before just suddenly did exactly the same thing the other day.

I really need to use it with the icons for screencasts I am making.

The problem in the folder, I cannot find this folder -

'Go to C:/Users/USERNAME/AppData/Local/Autodesk/3dsMaxDesign/(version)/'

This is not there, when I go to USERS/USERNAME/ there is no 'appdata' folder.

See attachment, please help me! Is it in another area?

I also installed/reinstalled 3ds Max and it still has this problem.

Thanks,

I actually found a file in 'roaming' it still does not solve the issue. It is terrible, it was working a few days ago. I will see if perhaps windows updates if any were made may have done this. This is crazy.

Because Appdata is a hidden folder. Set Explorer to "show hidden files and folders" and you'll find it and the ENU folder. Do NOT modify anything in Roaming, those are not the files/folders you need to rename or remove.

Try and switch drivers in max. Perhaps you are on nitro and your rig cant handle it. The drivers in max are in the preferences/viewport. You will have to restart max.

I had the thame error, while testing first release of max 2017. Looks like it's not fixed yet, even in sp2?

What can I say, it's not surprising.

I tried out what you said. I renamed the folder to ENU-old and restartet max. A new folder appeard named ENU. But max lost all the pathes to textures etc.

The solution to this was to copy the UI folder from en-US inside the new ENU folder that appeard and copy paste it into the ENU-old one.

I then deleted the new folder and renamed ENU-old to ENU again. It works like a charm 🙂
