Biped footstep mode problem

I'm creating a short movie with quite a bit of walking and running.
The movie starts with a character waking and standing up then walking around which is what I was going to use the biped footstep mode for.

Trouble is it's greyed out as there already animations, which I find kinda pointless.

So tried to create a walk cycle using a new scene biped then save as.bip then load into my current scene but it completely deletes/overwrite all previous animation and just has the walk cycle.

Is there anyway to merge the walk cycle into my current scene without it thinking thats the only animation I want?

p.s I dont have time to create a walk and run cycle manually and i'm not great at them.

Thanks
